BARE
SUBHUMAN | PLAY ME | HOLLOWPOINT
Representing Los Angeles, California, BARE aka Sean Rodela has become one of the most talked about new producers making waves on the worldwide dubstep circuit. The BARE sound is a product of deep roots in west coast hip-hop (as part of the Vital Mindz collective) and aggressive drum ‘n’ bass (as Reborn) – these influences, combined with crisp drum programming and mind altering basslines, spawn face melting dubstep anthems that almost rewind themselves. February saw BARE’s first vinyl release, the ragga-influenced dancefloor smasher ‘Culture’, on Terminal Dusk Recordings. Alongside the massive ‘Talk Too Loud’ on the flip, the release was charted by DJ’s over the world (via Chemical Records), and put BARE on the radar alongside other members of the already incendiary LA dub community. In April THE GROUPIE LOVE LIFE EP was released on Reid Speed’s Play Me Records, and the A-side ‘Life’ instantly secured a coveted spot in the Beatport dubstep top 10 – an amazing accomplishment for a fresh producer. In the weeks to follow, ‘Life’ peaked at number four on the charts, and would continue to dominate the top ten for close to a month – the B-side ‘Groupie Love’ was never far behind. The wheels were in motion, and around the same time BARE’s tracks caught the attention of drum and bass legend Dieselboy, resulting in a massive all A-side LP being secured for the third release on SubHuman Recordings (Human’s new dubstep offshoot) later this year. More original tracks and remixes are currently confirmed for Hollow Point Rec, Buygore, Licked Beats (UK), Trillbass, Play Me, TLD and Ultragore Recordings. BARE lives and breathes music, his studio output is staggering to even the most seasoned producers. His tunes make regular appearances in the sets of Dieselboy, Excision, Datsik, Trillbass, Downlink, Mark Instinct, and Reid Speed. Studio collaborations with Symbl, NumberNin6, 6Blocc, J Messinian, and Mark Instinct are already in the works, with many more planned for the future as time allows. As a DJ, BARE is quickly building a reputation as a tough act to follow – his sets (largely comprised of his own material) are a nonstop low end assault, fluidly mixed collections of banger after banger that reduce dancefloors to smoldering ash. BARE was recently recruited to Circle Management’s roster (alongside Datsik, Boregore, and Funtcase, to name a few) and his performance schedule is already filling up fast. It’s fair to say BARE has been on a high speed elevator to the big leagues since day one, and shows no sign of slowing down.
OHMEN
JUNGLIZM | SCALESTEP | BOMBADUB.COM
Born and Raised in the Sub Urban area just south of Los Angeles; known as the Harbor Area, OHMEN grew up in an environment full of musical and artistic influence. His father; a hobby musician who has always had a studio in the house set the stage when he let OHMEN, probably no older than 6 put his hands on the Roland Tr-707 drum machine he had just got.
Through the 90’s he grew into his teen years and OHMEN was deeply influenced by Hip Hop & Reggae as well as all aspects of their cultures. It was during these years where his love for music grew as well as his want to Dj and Produce. It was also during this time that the Electronic Music or “Rave” scene started to really jump off in Los Angeles and OHMEN’s ears opened up to the sound of early break beat Techno and House. As the years progressed so did Electronic Music and Jungle eventually hit the scene. The drums and the bass dug itself deep into his soul as it had done with so many other Junglists of the time.
During his senior year in high school he met DRONE (who later became a part of L.A’s legendary Junglist Platoon) and since they were literally the only 2 Junglists in the school it only seemed right that they would work together to hone their Dj skills.
For years OHMEN was no more than the average party goer and bedroom Dj/Producer playing nothing more than “the homies backyard boogie” or small time event when he was struck with a life changing illness that left him paralyzed for about 2 years. During his years of recovery OHMEN kept working on his beats and as soon as it was possible even recorded a Dj Mix straight out of his wheelchair.
In 2007 OHMEN was back on his feet and back in the scene. It was then at PURE FILTH he heard the sounds of Dubstep and it took him back to the first time he heard Jungle. Not only the bass but the vibes of the party felt just like being at an old school jungle event. Everybody loved it, not one person in the crowd was standing still. It was ridiculous!! At that point Dubstep became the focus of OHMEN’s musical creativity; although he still does pump out the occasional Jungle tune.
Shortly after in 2008 OHMEN along with O.G HAZARD, G-MECHA, ENUFF TALK, KILL, EXEMPT and DEFY began throwing a monthly called DIGITAL WARFARE in which Old School Jungle and Dubstep were the highlight. It was also this year that OHMEN & O.G HAZARD produced “Turn Down The Lights” which got remixed and played out by Dj’s such as 6BLOCC and U-OME as well as other solo productions getting play on BOMBADUB RADIO Hosted by Belgium’s own Dj KNORSQ on SUB.FM.
In 2009 the DIGITAL WARFARE crew parted ways and OHMEN along with O.G HAZARD began throwing a night called JUNGLIZM where all vinyl Old School Jungle is the focus. OHMEN has had the chance to play at such parties as Los Angeles’ famed summer event I LOVE L.A as well as numerous other events in and around the Los Angeles area.
2010 is here and OHMEN’s production skills are only getting better and have labels such as FOUL PLAY DUBSTEP keeping a close ear. With BOMBADUB RADIO now operating out of Los Angeles, OHMEN has had 2 guest appearances as well as doing any and all to help with the promotion of the show. Along with design work for BIG HEAVY MUSIC he is currently working on getting his own label off the ground. Expect big things from OHMEN in the future because this is just the beginning.
JONA
GRAPEVINEZ | BASS DYNASTY | MEDIA-OBSCURA
JONA showcases an explosive dancefloor jump-up assault. His choices of vinyl has a twist to mash up old and new tracks to form a new school classic anthem. JONA's sound encompasses all styles and genres, from Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B, Freestyle, Metal, and more to get the people dancing! His philosophy towards the scene is "EACH ONE TEACH ONE!" He believes that drum & bass is the future of electronic music in which it will infest everyone minds, hearts, and souls. When the junglists hear JONA's set, a constant smile, head bob, and an overwhelming bassface occurs.
JONA's future is leading towards producing tracks and becoming a valid respected DJ. He is currently working on projects with NeuroPunk, Solomon MC, MC J-Tec and many others. In collaboration with NeuroPunk, and The Ache as the group" Grapevinez," they are currently signed onto Let's Beat Milo Records for doing a remix for Keoki vs Decoding Jesus- Speaker. In the future, he would like to be signed on to a prestigious DnB record label, to travel the world, and to play at massive parties to display his dubs and DJ skills!
