SDDubstep.com 2 Year Anniversary // BULLETPROOF - NZ (yes the dnb one)
[]
2011-03-11 @ The Club, Los Angeles, CA
SDDubstep started in January of 2009, with the hopes of enriching the San Diego bass music scene. If you go to sddubstep.com and look at the oldest show posting in the archives, you'll find Joe Nice's first SD appearance at Dub Smugglers. I remember that night clearly, and I remember thinking there is no way for dubstep to stay confined to such a small scene after something like that. Since then, we've definitely had some amazing shows.
Some of the artists SDDubstep.com has hosted in SD in the past 2 years:
Kutz
Sukh Knight
Joe Nice
Yohan
Kial
DLX
FSTZ
Vent
Ill Kid
Crix Saiz
MC Ptrick
Not to mention supporting SD's local scene heavily since day one. Nights such as Dub Smugglers, Dead//Technology, Elev8, Dub Dorado, OB Bassquake, Brokenbeat, Altruism, Neon Dragon, SD Union, Organized Grime, Pure Dubs, Seismic, Resonate (and any others I forgot - let me know!), have played a huge part in getting our music heard and appreciated throughout SD - and worldwide.
I knew I had to do something big for the 2 year mark... Seeing as the legendary Roguedubs 2010 party was kind of our one year anniversary, and how do I top that? Kava was packed to the gills and the vibes were incredible!
Well, I'm going to attempt to top it.
Here's our lineup:

******* Artist Info *******
Bulletproof is from Auckland, NZ, and has been in the game for quite a while. If you are wondering, YES, it's the same Bulletproof that has a ton of legendary DNB tunes out. His label, Cyanide Records, has close to 100 vinyl releases (if they haven't met that number by this time), and his new album, SOUNDTRACK TO FOREVER is smashing iTunes and was voted #1 ELECTRONIC ALBUM OF 2010 in NZ.
EshOne has been busy with production, event promotion (Dead//Technology & SDDubstep.com), and playing events. With forthcoming releases on Roguedubs, eight:fx, and more TBA, he will be making his presence known in 2011. This gig is a warm up for Esh & Misk as they depart for SXSW in Austin, TX shortly after. Expect some extremely fresh cuts, big tunes, and excessive energy.
Austin Speed is the name on everyone's speed dial in SoCal as of late. With sound system crushers like Stardust and Raygun Shootout, he's been getting play from some heavy hitters. Not to mention his co-produced event Dub Smugglers with Crmnl, which has undeniably set the standard for quality dubstep events in SD. I think 2011 is going to be a (overdue) breakout year for this artist, and I can't wait to see where he goes. Expect lots of dubs from himself, and other great producers. Austin is a DJ's DJ. Super clean, and super heavy.
Puppy Kicker has been hiding. No, that's not the right word. Puppy Kicker has been lurking. He's just finished up an album of insanely good tunes that will be released this spring/summer. PK brings unnecessary energy to the stage for every performance, and it's no mystery why he's always got the dancefloor packed. Ladies love PK (L.L. PK), and I imagine he will singlehandedly win us all over with some insane melodies and gyration inspiring percussion.
Misk. This guy is about as elusive as they come. But have you ever seen his live set? It's ridiculous. I don't know what the hell those buttons do, but I know they light up, and I know he's making beats and remixing loops on the fly. Talk about energy... Talk about dirty basslines... This guy does all of that... and he does it right in front of your face. No discrepancies, no receipts with your order, no takesies backsies. This guy is serious.

What better place to host this than The Kava Lounge. The place where most of this started. The club with the best tuned house sound system in SD. The bass box with the dope drink menu. We're all family there, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
We'll see you there!
