about the talent + +

JOE NICE :

Representing Baltimore, Joe Nice is universally recognized as the ambassador of the dubstep sound in North America and has been instrumental in the growth and success of dubstep for nearly a decade. In other words, he's been playing dubstep before it was called dubstep.

Joe's monthly radio show on GourmetBeats.com was the first to feature dubstep in the states and his worldwide fan base continues to grow with his enthusiastic stage presence & live performance, upfront selection and skillful mixing. Joe's record bag is a who's who of dubstep... if you've never heard it before, chances are, you'll hear it from Joe Nice. He is the first American-based DJ to play on London pirate radio, Rinse FM, the first American-based DJ to play the legendary DMZ bi-monthly bash and the first American-based DJ to play FWD>> @ Plastic People.

A member of GourmetBeats, resident & co-founder of the most successful dubstep party in North America, DubWar (New York City) and selected as one of URB's NEXT 100 (in 2007), JoeNice is continually taking dubstep to the next level and beyond.

MATTY G :
Matty G is without doubt the pioneer of the hip hop influenced sub-genre that ever so present in today's flourishing dubstep scene. Since his first release in 2006 on US based imprint 'Argon', he has gone from strength to strength building on his sample based 90's hip hop sound and having scene defying tracks along the way all from his studio in Santa Cruz, USA. In 2007 came the massive '50,000 Watts' which set the bar for the sub-low 808 sound that many have tried to imitate since and remains a true anthem within the scene to this day. It gained support from the who's who of dubstep royalty including Caspa & Rusko (featuring on their legendary Fabric Live compilation), Skream, Digital Mystikz, N-Type & Joe Nice to name a few and also received the remix treatment from dubstep pioneer Loefah, all going towards firmly cementing the track, and Matty G in the history of the sound.

Later that year Matty came with another anthem in the shape of 'West Coast Rocks' which again raised the bar and received a remix from Dub Police head honcho Caspa, who also that year put out Matty's debut release for the Dub Police label on the 2nd installment of the License To Thrill series sharing wax with Rusko and Dubwoofa. In 2008 Matty released his debut album on Argon entitled 'Take You Back', which received rave reviews from all corners of the dubstep scene as well as bridging the gap even more so between dubstep and hip hop. Featuring vocals performances from the likes of Juakali and Audio Angel, the LP again solidified Matty's place among the dubstep ranks. As well as proving to be a renowned producer, Matty showed the masses he is as talented behind the decks, touring far and wide playing at such prestigious nights as; DMZ at The Mass in Brixton, Dub Police at Fabric in London and the world famous Glastonbury Festival (the largest music and performing arts festival in the world). Fast forward to 2010 and having just completed a tour of US for Scion AV along with Caspa, The Others, D1 and Rod Azlan, Matty is back in the studio on the best form of his life with numerous tracks doing the rounds and massive releases lined up including a single for Dub Police as well as remixes for Caspa and label mate Subscape. You are very likely to be seeing more of this man in the near future, 2010 is shaping up to be the year when this musical stalwart really shines through.

STEADY :
A welcome face to dance floors all over California, Steady is a solid contributor to West Coast dubstep whose productions and performances passionately promote the sound. After playing drum and bass for almost a decade, Steady caught the dubstep contagion and was soon inducted into the SMOG family with the rest of the beat freaks. Along with fellow DJ and producer Kelly Dean, Steady now hosts a radio show “PLATFORM” on DubstepFM every second Saturday of the month from 1-3PM, where he showcases exclusive new material by artists both local and from around the world.

The two have also just released “The Prophet” on Shift Recordings and you can find Steady’s work on Alterkation Records as well as on the recent and wildly popular “Dubstep LA” mix by Plastician. Looking forward to future collaborations with fellow SMOG members and other local dubstep heads, Steady continues to propel the sound forward in the studio and at filthy parties all up and down the West Coast.

KYNPHY :
Knife Dreams aka Knyphy came to Los Angeles from North Carolina’s “Runnin’ Deep” dubstep crew and has been an early and often contributor to SMOG and the community around it. With a wide variety of influences from UK garage and new wave to metal and post-punk, this producer’s eclectic sound is a fat match for the wide diversity of the LA community.

You can often catch Knyphy on SMOG Radio on SubFM every fourth Sunday of the month from 3-5PM, or find the stabbing sounds of this dubstep head hyphing up SMOG parties and underground events all over Southern California.
