::AUG 25th SESSION::
Inside the Ride, We Have:

-KURU [PHEAR+ORIGIN]- *Special LIVE Ableton set*
(SMOG/ Club Muse/ Media Contender-LA)
Website: www.curedbykuru.com

The idea is simple. Long time collaborators Ryan Origin and Jeff Tovar wanted to change the way they were participating in music, so the KURU project was born. Rather than strictly following genre lines, they decided in 2008 that freedom to create and perform whatever they choose both in audio and design was the way forward. Flash ahead to 2010, Kuru’s original music (at tempos from 128-174 BPM) is about to make a serious impact on the EDM world, and their club MUSE has gone through a successful reboot into a loving home for fans of progressive dance music. The plan was clearly devised upon the creation of KURU, and now the results are here.

Ryan Origin bio: From his initial 4-track techno-sampling experiments as a 12 year old, to crafting Kuru’s blistering landscapes of bass, Ryan has always been involved with what’s next in electronic music. Active in the Los Angeles underground since the 20th Century, his DJ sets and dance events have opened minds and filled floors of every size. A distinct and twisted ear for production eventually garnered releases on imprints like Interscope, Argon, Nervous Records, C.I.A., Project Fifty One, and now SMOG. Today, acting as engineer for Kuru, he hopes to elicit feelings that echo his own experiences in rave culture. Hardcore will never die.

Jeff Tovar bio: Whether through design or music, Jeff Tovar’s work is always energetic, startlingly beautiful, and purposefully rooted in the future. Since the mid 90′s, his sets have brought a sense of lush, biting texture to the Los Angeles Underground, and his no-compromise aesthetic remains the driving force behind both Kuru and Club MUSE. Nearing it’s 100th edition since launching in 2001, MUSE has hosted artists critical to modern dance music such as John Tejada, Photek, Pinch, 2562, ASC, and Gridlok, among others. In 2011, MUSE’s co-promotions with SMOG have provided the cutting edge of bass to a city ready to embrace the new. Professionally, Jeff’s effort with entities like Droid Behavior, SMOG, Iheartcomix and as Art Director and Head of Photography at Media Contender, displays that he can create compelling content, no matter the medium.

-COMA-
(TrillBass/ UmbrellaClothing/ Dub Selection)
www.soundcloud.com/comasound

The most faithful and resolute of electronic music producers maintain the rare ability to mold a collective series of sounds into a definitive structure that not only captures the essence of a given genre, but the essence of the artist himself. Those who are brave enough to venture outside the studio and present their craft to the world via DJ session or Live PA, carry the burden of having to seduce a crowd with their raw charisma. The responsibility of the artist and the performer are not always symbiotic. Sometimes the characteristics of the artist outweigh the performer. Sometimes it is the other way around. Any way you cut it, artists like Los Angles based Dubstep producer Jacob Coma seem to amount to the sum of both these traits with the greatest of ease.

Coma is a rare specimen who has rhythm tattooed to the invisible surface of his conscience. From his days as a child banging on pots and pans while his mother worked in the kitchen to his prodigious introduction into electronic music as a Hip Hop DJ, it has always been abundantly clear that music is in his blood. But a deep, intrinsic love and understanding of music can only get an artist so far. They must be able to accept, analyze and embrace all forms of music with an unwavering sense of curiosity. Perhaps it is that very sense of curiosity that has allowed Coma to excel stylistically. His musical pallet is seemingly endless, with influences that revolve around a complex constellation of genres. From House to Reggae, Jazz to Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, Breakbeats and beyond, Coma has spent the better part of his life lapping it all up.

Coma’s current endeavors into the realm of Dubstep have yielded a dynamic array of sounds. Melodic hooks, sweeping breakdowns and wobbling bass lines have become ubiquitous characteristics of his style. However, Coma carefully balances his driving, dance floor busting grooves with subtle audio edits and precision-crafted effects that provide an unsettling moodiness to his tracks. While listeners’ bodies absorb the fullness of his audio-logical aura, their minds wonder elsewhere, carried off by molecular eruptions of ambient noise that seem to radiate into deep space.

The creature he becomes on stage further highlights the impact of his musical presence. While performing Coma physically transmits his energy to the audience, giving them little choice but to become physically involved. He presents himself as a mythic Banton of sound system culture, gracing the decks with an uncanny ease as he rallies a crowd around his big, bad bass. But as he winds his way through his performance, jumping and bouncing all over the stage, he maintains an air of humility. He is part of the party, not the party itself.

Coma’s remixes of artists such as T-Pain, The Yeah Yeah Yeah's and The Baby Namboo’s have put him on the map as a crafty up and coming producer. Music now available at all major online retailers: Coma's remix of Wes Green's 'Fly Away' on TRiLLBASS Records, 'The Call' and 'My Addiction' along with remixes on Beyond Zilla Records, 'Summer's Fall' b/w 'Black Wood' on Dub Selection Records and 'On The Ground (Coma RMX)' by Tambour Battant on Expresillon Records.

-BLANG + MARACULOUS-
(Bell Ringer Records/ Moving Head/ Let It Ring)

Both Residents to LET IT RING... this B2B session will be off the hook... with a planned set of low, deep bassline rollers and heavy beats... this will be a set not to miss. As BLANG uses all the avenues of what it take to rock a set... on top of his mixing style he has been working steadily on new Original production and recent remixes from a producer (ABEL) out the UK and HULK & SickOrWell's 'Organized Crime'.
Alongside is MARACULOUS who has got many years under his belt with mixing wax! A love for the raw and heavy... Maraculous always brings an old school flavor to the table and a solid mixing style. Be prepared to be surprised as this DJ has got the dubplates for 'WOW Factor'!
